Proposal to use Riggisberg cemetery as a historical, geological and astrological memorial park to promote the following: 1) preserve the memory and demonstrate respect of the dead,2) provide place to reflect on the past, contemplate about the future and think about God, 3) promote interest in local history, regional geology, geography, astrology, chemistry, biology, life-spans, weather, finances, geneology, 4) demonstrate that we are all related and that our most recent common ancestor lived 2000 to 5000 years ago, 5) offer the school and its students a platform for projects, 6) promote long term values, 7) serve as a tourist stop over rest place especially for the pilgrims walking the Jacobs trail, 8) serve as a pilot project and an example to other communities. Funding: 1) community provides land, 2) church provides maintenance, 3) families provide gravestones, 4) school provides club members and research resources, 5) club members provide the volunteer work, 6) work provi! des hands-on learning, 7) volunteers provide leadership, 8) sponsors, donors and visitors provide money for materials needed to construct the site. Additional ideas: 1) photo of Riggisberg from the same viewpoint each 100 years, 2) bank account of 100 dollars to show how interest accumulates over 1000 years, 3) various gravestones showing the type of rock and the mineral composition of the rock, 4) symbolic gravestones of famous people of Riggisberg with brief biographies, 5) time capsule every 50 ...
